LINUX OS INSTALLATION
How to Install Linux OS
Linux is a popular operating system that is free, open-source and compatible with a variety of hardware and software. Installing Linux OS can be a great way to customize your computer, learn new skills and enjoy the benefits of a secure and stable system. In this blog post, we will guide you through the steps of installing Linux OS on your computer.
Before you begin, you will need to prepare a few things:
- A computer that meets the minimum requirements for the Linux distribution you want to install. You can check the official website of the distribution for more details.
- A USB flash drive or a DVD with at least 4 GB of storage space. You will use this to create a bootable media that contains the Linux installer.
- A backup of your important data. Installing Linux OS will erase everything on your hard drive, so make sure you have a copy of your files on another device or cloud service.
- An internet connection. You will need this to download the Linux installer and update your system after installation.
Once you have everything ready, follow these steps to install Linux OS:
1. Download the Linux installer from the official website of the distribution you want to install. For example, if you want to install Ubuntu, you can download it from https://ubuntu.com/download. The installer is usually an ISO file that contains all the necessary files for installation.
2. Create a bootable media using the Linux installer. You can use a software like Rufus (https://rufus.ie/) or Etcher (https://www.balena.io/etcher/) to write the ISO file to your USB flash drive or DVD. This will make your media bootable and ready for installation.
3. Insert your bootable media into your computer and restart it. You may need to change the boot order in your BIOS or UEFI settings to make your computer boot from the USB flash drive or DVD instead of the hard drive. You can usually access the BIOS or UEFI settings by pressing a key like F2, F10 or Del during startup.
4. Once your computer boots from the bootable media, you will see a menu with different options. Choose the option that says "Install Linux" or something similar. This will launch the Linux installer and guide you through the installation process.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen and choose your preferred settings for language, keyboard layout, time zone, partitioning, username and password. You can also choose whether to install additional software or updates during installation.
6. Wait for the installation to complete. This may take some time depending on your hardware and internet speed. When the installation is done, you will be asked to restart your computer and remove the bootable media.
7. Congratulations! You have successfully installed Linux OS on your computer. You can now enjoy using your new system and explore its features and applications.
